Choosing a Game Console

Entertainment is something that can’t be separated from our lives because they are the one that let you enjoy those little free time and make the usual daily life more interesting, moreover, if you have specific enthusiasm about it. There are various forms of entertainment and one of the most popular nowadays among both younger and even adults is video games. For many of us, video games are an inseparable part of our childhood and as the gaming market is getting mainstream, more and more are offered to consumers.

In the past, video games must be played through a console and connected to your TV with only a limited amount of games to play but now, you can play them almost anywhere from the traditional console to compact smartphone we carry anywhere. When it is about a game, taste or preference matters the most because not all of us like a certain type of game or prefer the same system to play. If this is your first purchase, consider these before buying a console:

  1. Budget matters the most for many people unless you have the fortune to not really mind about how much we can spend, it is nice to provide a certain budget so we can quickly jump into the possible option. Gaming consoles can vary in price and just like everything else; those newer models are usually pricier than its predecessor. Consider those that already discontinued or “lite” variants if you are not really into gaming but only want one for casual playing.
  2. After the budget comes the game console itself and this is what we usually do when choosing a console or selecting based on what game to play. For unfamiliar consumers, not all games can be played in all consoles seamlessly and this often what pushes people towards certain consoles. Consider what game you want to play and if there are exclusives for example, if you want to play Street Fighter 5 then PS4 is the console and if you want to play Halo then Xbox One is the option, etc.
  3. Last but not least is considering the console capabilities itself and this is important as not all consoles are made to be the same outside the games they can play. Make sure to check what other users have to say about certain consoles and if there are issues on the system that may hinder your full experience. Checking their specs is helpful as well such as seeing if the console is capable of playing in 4K or whether you need a physical disc to play or not.

About Xbox One S and PS4

Now when you already have an image about the console or how they should be, it is the time to see what the market has to offer because you will see quite a lot of them despite only three major consoles for home application. All of them are amazing and this is why it can be difficult to only choose one. If you have been playing with your friend’s console, having the same console is great as you can play together.

As it has been mentioned above, consoles have varying prices and if you are here then we are sure you may want to spend less for this new device and for this type of users, both Xbox and Playstation should have the option ready. These major players are enemies but also inseparable and though you will see die-hard fans from both sides, many also end up having two or more consoles, especially for enthusiasts to enjoy the fullest experience.

For consoles that are always upgraded in a certain span of time, you will find more than one model in the catalog and some are even discontinued to make way for the new machine. If you will be spending less, both Xbox One S and PS4 are two ideal options to consider as their prices are already cut down but the console itself is still very much capable and fun to play along with a plethora of games that you can purchase anytime.

Both of them are not new machines anymore as they have been in the store for years now but taking all into consideration, they are still very capable options for those who are not exactly chasing the top specifications in the gaming world. The Xbox One S is the companion of its X brother but without the hefty price and for the previous model’s player, this is also an upgrade done by Microsoft to improve the gaming experience through their machine.

Playstation is the synonym of gaming console for many and PS4 has been proving that they are correct. The original console itself has been discontinued as it nears its end and people are starting to expect new machines to come forward anytime soon but, today we still have both its Slim and Pro version. Both are nice but of course the Pro version will be nicer and pricier. Read also: HyperX Cloud Flight Vs Arctis 7.

Xbox One S and PS4 Design

For this article, we are focusing on the lower-end products so we are focusing on PS4 Slim version and how it compares to Xbox One S. Xbox used to comes in black finish but now they are white which some may not preferred as it easily to get dirty or showing a prominent discoloration over time and this machine is quite small in comparison to its brother by being measured at 17-inch long, 11.4-inch wide, and 4.4-inch deep or about two-fifths of the original model.

The Slim version of PS4 is also the same and now it even only weighed at slightly over two pounds. This console is measured at 11.3-inch long, 10.4-inch wide, and 1.5-inch deep which makes it very small for a regular console, including when compared to the One S and similar to its predecessors, PS somehow still looks like a sandwich that cuts in an unusual angle. It is thankfully still having black finish so smokers don’t have to worry about staining their console.

Xbox One S and PS4 Video

Moving further, let’s see what Xbox One S and PS4 can offer and in this side, they are already quite different however. In modern devices, everything is about 4K but sadly this is not offered yet by the Slim version of PS4 and if you specifically want to game in 4K or have the display then we recommend to consider the Pro version. On the other hand, One S is already capable of playing content in Ultra HD resolution but it is not native or they actually interpolate or upscale it.

However, this should be enough for casual gaming and even streaming content from your paid streaming platform such as Netflix and Amazon Video or even YouTube. With this machine, we can access their 4K content conveniently which makes the console even more convenient both for movie and gaming purposes. PS4 Slim itself plays games and videos natively in 1920×1080 and at 60 frames per second so if you have 4K TV, the upscaling may happen on the display.

Xbox One S and PS4 Controller

Now moving to the controller, starting with Xbox One S, this machine uses a wireless controller which has been slightly redesigned with sleeker body than its previous model but still has the familiar feeling on your hand and somehow felt grippier probably due to the new surface. It also has Bluetooth support for Windows 10 devices with latest Xbox apps and for this controller, Microsoft improved the distance of the wireless connectivity. This controller uses batteries and the older controllers work with the console if you have those.

PS4 Slim carries the same but different controller in the box with slight redesign based on the predecessor. Now we have a translucent light bar across the controller’s touchpad which is used to let you know which color you are set as without twisting the unit. Besides using it in wireless mode, we can also use it with USB which is great to prevent any possible lack during competition. Additionally, it lets you connect the controller to a PC without having to buy a Bluetooth dongle.

Xbox One S and PS4 Games

The last part we want to mention here is what you can play on Xbox One S and PS4 because it is the game that makes a console great. With Xbox, you can play popular titles such as Gears of War, Halo, and Forza Motorsport, while on the other hand PS are home for Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, and God of War. While One S has the upper hand for carrying a UHD drive, PS4 Slim has the upper hand on playing virtual reality games.

Xbox One S vs PS4

All game consoles are great for the right player and if possible we want to have all of them to feel the differences between platforms. Xbox One S and PS4 are amazing for the price point but they are also different, besides exclusive that we will leave up to you, the prominent difference is Xbox offer upscaling for UHD so we can play 4K content here but it’s uses standard AA batteries for the controller which mean you have to buy their Play & Charge Kit to be able to charge it.

On the other hand, the PS4 controller is rechargeable and the battery lasts for about 4-8 hours from the full state. It does however play videos at 1280x1080p thus, 4K game players may want to opt for the Pro version instead.
