We are sure they are not an unfamiliar name especially for gamers because they carry lots of amazing gaming centered products and monitor is one of them. This Taiwanese company may be more well-known for their gaming laptops but you will love their monitor as well since besides being good, they are great for the budget. 

MSI has lots to offer and their Optix line has been trusted for quite some time when it comes to budget curved monitors but they always improved to be better and this also the case for MSI Optix G27C2 and MAG271C. They are about the same in price range but the latter is actually a newer model so it is easy to tell that it might be built to improve the older monitor or to upgrade its capabilities yet, in general they are also very much similar to each other.

These are VA panel and it is a great improvement if you have been using TN in the past as the image quality will most likely to be improved so much and while in this price range we don’t think MSI Optix G27C2 and MAG271C will be impressive for entertainment other than gaming, they are still great choice for both gaming and general use of computer like watching videos or creating documents and browsing.

In a glance both of them may look similar and identical but the details are very different and the first thing you will notice is that the MAG model now has thinner bezel in comparison to the original Optix line. The original line bezel is not very thick however, yet now it is much thinner and makes the monitor even more attractive. Another difference in design is the tube stand which now comes in black instead of chromatic red.

We personally prefer the bright red as it complements the MSI aesthetic but the MAG series has an RGB lighting at the back of the monitor and while this is actually not very visible at noon, if you are gaming in a dark room, there is still some noticeable color from the rear panel for aesthetic. The rest are fairly the same but MAG series can be installed with a VESA mount but even without, the original mount itself is already working very well.

Moving further, let’s see what MSI Optix G27C2 and MAG271C can offer to you and starting with the display quality first, both of them are using VA panel and this one is better when it comes to color production so you will have better experience if upgrading from TN technology but, you must worried about the refresh rate yet rest assure since they are the same 144Hz monitor we usually see on affordable TN gaming models so there should be no problem in gaming purpose.

As for the response time itself, MSI claimed these two to have 1ms response which should be taken with a grain of salt since it is probably not that possible in this price range. What we are not really sold into is the resolution itself because these monitors are measured at 27-inch and only have Full HD as the native resolution or 1080p which can be quite unflattering if your goal is mesmerizing image especially for videos and images.

Moving into performance, both of them are looking very good and they are also created with True Color technology but this is what seems a bit improved between the two because they are using a different color technology. Side by side however, it is not very apparent and we are sure most people will like the color in either of them. For gaming purposes a Full HD resolution is not a problem and games do look great on any of these models but the best part is the color also looks better from different angles unlike with TN panels.

For entertainment like movies and video or image editing however, their color pops out too much so the result may look great here but duller on the other monitor or devices. While the image looks acceptable from a different angle, they do look best only from the center of the curve.

The last part for additional features both MSI Optix G27C2 and MAG271C are compatible with FreeSync so those with AMD can optimize their card and monitor together so it means they also have DisplayPort. The other feature we like is on the stand because you can tilt it but none of them are rotating in case you want to arrange it upright. Additionally we love the stand of MAG series because it has this small hole near the bottom for you to route cable through to make a cleaner setup.

Both of them are amazing for the budget and the image quality is also great. The improvement on MAG series is mostly on the stand in our opinion as well as minor on the design as it has thinner bezel and RGB lighting on the back which looks very fancy. The display itself doesn’t improve much and in our opinion still fairly the same but we do love the stand of MAG series as it is not only more stable but also has room to route the cable.
